As the proud owner of Sabina's Cafe, my journey with coffee began long before I ever imagined opening my own café.
I’m Ethiopian, raised in Chicago and now rooted in Washington, DC. Coffee has always been woven into the fabric of my life. Growing up, my weekends began with the comforting aroma of my mother roasting fresh coffee beans in our home. That scent meant more than just a morning drink — it meant connection. My sister and I would sit with her, sometimes hosting our own little tea parties, learning that in Ethiopian culture, coffee is not rushed. It is an experience. It is where we gather, reflect on our week, share stories, laugh, and simply be together. Coffee was — and still is — our way of staying grounded and united.
Years later, while working in corporate America, I found myself constantly seeking out cozy coffee shops. They became my sanctuary. Whenever I needed clarity, comfort, or a sense of belonging, I would step into a café. If it felt like home, I returned again and again. If it didn’t, I kept searching. I realized I wasn’t just looking for great coffee — I was looking for a feeling.
That feeling inspired me to build Sabina's Cafe.

Sabina’s Cafe is named after my mother, the woman who first introduced me to the power of coffee, culture, and connection.
When you step into Sabina's Cafe, and you’ll instantly feel at home. From the moment you walk through our doors, you’re welcomed by the rich aroma of freshly brewed coffee, soothing teas, and the warmth of a space designed for connection.
Enjoy our fresh coffee, delicious pastries, great music, and feel-good vibes that make you want to stay awhile. Whether you’re meeting friends, spending time with family, or simply taking a moment for yourself, there’s always a seat waiting for you.
If you do stop by to visit us you might get lucky and catch Sabina hosting a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony — a beautiful experience that brings people together to slow down, reflect, and share in community.
